There are a variety of ways to get to your first year of architecture school. Students in your first-year studio will be of varying ages, experiences, backgrounds, and skill levels. This is what makes a studio successful!
Before you apply, take a step back and consider your reasons and inspirations for attending architecture school. This will come in handy when applying, and it will point you in the direction of the school that best suits your academic goals. It's crucial to know which schools offer National Architectural Accrediting Board-accredited degree programs (NAAB). You should also consider which areas of focus a school addresses. Some schools, for example, place a strong emphasis on art, while others place a strong emphasis on technology and community service. If required, create an application portfolio that reflects these ideas and depicts your educational, job, and life experiences. All of these are significant!
Once you've been admitted, research the professors you'll be working with in the first semester. The majority of their lessons would be based on their educational history and job experience.
Your living environment has a major impact on your experience. You'll be in the studio for long periods of time, and if you're anything like me, you'll want a quiet place to live and recuperate. Keep in mind that the workload varies significantly from that of many other programs, which can be difficult to manage if you live with friends or students from other programs.
Keep yourself inspired, centered, and most importantly, excited. You'll make lifelong friends with the people you meet in architecture school!
